Frank J. Castrignano was heading south when the bear wandered onto the highway from the eastern shoulder, authorities said.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. in Rice Township, according to State Police.
After impact, the bike spun out and the rider fell off, police continued.
The Shavertown rider was wearing a helmet and eye protection, troopers noted.
He was rushed to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre where his injuries were serious, State Troopers said.
Frank died of his injuries the same evening as the crash, according to his obituary published late Wednesday night.
His funeral arrangements are currently being organized by the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, LLC, 1030 Wyoming Avenue in Exeter, where the visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
